A Marxist Evaluation Of Feminism And Gender Equality Essay

A Marxist evaluation of feminism and gender equality is another failure of the Neo-Marxist system to generate any serious change in a neoliberal capitalistic model. Feminism, since the 1970s, has become a subjective and distorted version of what it was meant to be—a system that sought to raise the rights of women out of the home (as domestic servants) and into the workplace. In the late 20th and early 21st century, the idea of Marxism as a system of economic analysis for women to dissect the inequalities of patriarchal capitalism has also become diluted and co-opted by the ruling classes as a â€Å"political phenomenon:† In this sense, then, rather than retaining the idea of feminism as something that stretched from its radical incarnation to its liberal form, we have to broaden the scope of its reference to the whole of the political spectrum (Power p.13). In this manner, the feminist movement has become further abstracted from economic materialism to embrace the subjective and propagandistic nature of politics as a way to promote feminist ideology. This is one form of the dilution of Marxist ideology that rarely focuses on the economic systems that bring oppression to women’s rights in the workplace, but on the subjective â€Å"value systems† that Weber s theory has had expanded well into the neoliberal era of capitalist global economics.
